In the police investigation after the riots city-owned and operated surveillance cameras were used to try and identify suspects in the riot. There was some concern though about the potential for abuse and the growing amount of surveillance in the Vancouver area. What guidelines should there be for the use of surveillance cameras? How long should be recordings be kept? How much surveillance is acceptable? How are these boundaries determined?
