The 1938 letter from Disney shows its response to a woman’s inquiry about working in Disney’s creative department. The response is appalling sexist.
The letter could be used for November 2020 TOK Essay Prescribed Title #2 as a way to “understand” Disney and / or sexism.
We understand more about Disney and sexism because the writer of the original writer, Miss Ford, wondered “what if” she applied for a job.
Another possible approach could be at changes in the study of history and gender. In this past a letter like this might have been overlooked by researchers as it didn’t meet past standards of an acceptable source. That is quite different now of course and the study of history and gender are more comprehensive. This is because at some point a researcher asked “what if” different kinds of sources were worthy of investigation.
